URO Strange commonplace exercise

As an artistic-research, the project focus on being practice-based, meaning that artefacts/drawings/exercises/model are equally worthy expressions/forms of recognition as the written. Between the word and works there is a reciprocal exchange and on-going qualifying and developing.

I understand artistic-research as my arena of artistic practice and of academic reflection, a place to entangle thoughtful texts and intuitive artefacts, and through this arena generation of new planes of composition. There might not always be a linear way or straight way, or an explanation between the text and the artefacts, however I see the privileged position of artistic research compared to more traditional research. Artistic “lines of flight” (Deleuze and Guattari), or the “devils share” (Sartre, 1946)/chance and failures are of equal importance, and that which pushes the practice into new compositions.

Techniques like sampling, templating, lay outing, collaborative movement and surrealist games like Exquisite Corpse are employed as generators of surprise.
