DDR Statement

The design and production of housing are largely subject to standardized space and living concepts and control by the market. Innovation and adaptation to individual needs are therefore not applied.
To release potential in the production of housing, in existing buildings as well as in new construction, the research project ‘gewohntes’ focuses on the residents with their wishes and needs and their appropriation of living space. With the collection of various qualitative data and their processing in relational mappings, interdisciplinary qualitative and artistic spatial research methods are experimented with. Thereby a transferability and exchange between sociological qualitative evaluation methods in architectural-spatial contexts are aimed. In this way, individual and collective needs and desires for living will be processed to be used for housing design and planning. The project focuses on an exchange of knowledge and methods not only in an interdisciplinary way between sociology and architecture but also through its participatory character it should open the dialogue about housing for all people involved.
