Arrival Architectures
Research stage: PhD, early-intermediate
Category: Extended abstract
DDR Statement
Between the theoretical aspect of a spatial design process on the one, and the implemented project on the other side, the research project positions itself at the interface between architecture in its epistemological sense and as design practice. For the aim of the presented research project, design driven research seeks to facilitate a dialogue between what could be referred to as architectural “grammar” (theoretical framework) with the actual “spoken design language” (built reality). In doing so, the research positions itself close to the theme of the conference: EXCHANGE. By attempting to trace, sketch, and question the preceding processes of exchange in design decision making amid the complex typology of arrival architectures, the research further approaches the question of the role of the designer in the mediation across politics, society, resources, and the social implications of shared space. While different methods of design driven research are applied throughout the research project, in its entire aim it could be considered as an attempt to test and explore potential ways of architectural knowledge exchange against the backdrop of a specific design typology.
